German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul Embarks on Strategic Dialogue in Morocco

RABAT (dpa-AFX) - German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul is set to embark on a two-day visit to Morocco this Wednesday. In the capital city of Rabat, the CDU politician aims to engage in a strategic dialogue with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the German Foreign Office in Berlin. This diplomatic format is conducted every two years at the level of foreign ministers, with Bourita's last visit to Berlin occurring in June 2024. The discussions are expected to address critical issues concerning the situation in the Middle East and the Sahel region, highlighting Morocco's pivotal role in these geopolitical matters.

According to the spokesperson for the German government, Morocco is considered a key partner in North Africa, serving as an essential link between the African continent and Europe. The bilateral relations have shown a positive trajectory, particularly in terms of economic exchange. Wadephul's visit will be accompanied by a business delegation, indicating a strong interest in enhancing economic cooperation.

Additionally, the topic of migration is anticipated to be a significant point of discussion between Wadephul and Bourita. At the end of February, EU member states approved a legislative change allowing Germany and other EU countries to more easily deport individuals to third countries with which they have no connections. This policy will affect North African nations such as Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt, as well as the Kosovo, Colombia, and South Asian countries of India and Bangladesh.
