New Routes to Boost Tourism and Connectivity
Discover Airlines, a leisure carrier under the Lufthansa Group, has announced exciting new direct flights set to launch in October 2026, significantly enhancing air connectivity between Germany and Morocco. This strategic expansion includes routes to two of Morocco's most attractive tourist destinations: Agadir and Fès. The announcement, made on March 9, 2026, indicates a robust response to the increasing demand from European travelers eager to explore the rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes of Morocco.
The flight schedule reveals that Discover Airlines will operate two weekly flights connecting Frankfurt to Agadir, along with a weekly service from Munich to Fès. Notably, the Munich-Fès route will be the only direct connection available between these two locations, catering specifically to the growing number of tourists from Bavaria. The new services are designed to operate throughout the winter season, running from late October 2026 until the end of March 2027. Specifically, flights from Frankfurt to Agadir will occur on Mondays and Fridays, while the Munich to Fès route will be available every Sunday. This expansion will allow Discover Airlines to offer a total of up to 16 weekly flights across three Moroccan destinations during the winter period.
Responding to Rising Tourism Demand
This initiative aligns with the broader trend of increasing European interest in Moroccan tourism, which is a significant contributor to the country's economy. According to the World Bank, tourism generates approximately 7% of Morocco's GDP and accounts for over 20% of its export revenues. In 2024, Morocco experienced a tourism boom, welcoming around 17.4 million international visitors, a figure that exceeded pre-pandemic levels. Enhanced air connectivity from Europe, especially Germany, is anticipated to further facilitate the influx of visitors to Morocco's cultural hubs like Fès, as well as its picturesque coastal cities such as Agadir. This development not only underscores the evolving landscape of international travel but also highlights the importance of strategic airline partnerships in boosting global tourism.
