Strengthening Bilateral Relations Between Ghana and Morocco
The Ministerial Session of the Second Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) between Ghana and Morocco took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra on July 21, 2026. This significant meeting was co-chaired by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates. Following a fruitful Technical Experts Meeting in Rabat from June 9 to 11, 2026, the two nations solidified their partnership by signing eleven crucial bilateral agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
The agreements include an initialed Agreement on Air Services, which was first addressed in December 2022 in Abuja, and an Agreement on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters. Additionally, both countries have committed to fostering collaboration in standardization and metrology through a Memorandum of Understanding. In the realm of education, a significant Memorandum of Understanding was established for Higher Education and Scientific and Technological Cooperation, emphasizing the importance of academic exchange and innovation.
Furthermore, the two nations agreed to work together in Meteorology and Climatology, reflecting their commitment to addressing climate change and environmental challenges. Other notable agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding for Scientific and Technical Cooperation involving the Office National des Hydrocabures et des Mines and Ghana's Geological Survey Authority, as well as arrangements for Diplomatic Training, Vocational Training, and the Award of Academic Scholarships and Internships. Moreover, both parties emphasized the importance of sports and archival cooperation through dedicated memoranda.
Both Ministers expressed their unwavering dedication to the successful implementation of these agreements, believing that their renewed partnership will significantly deepen the relationships between Ghana and Morocco. They are optimistic that these collaborative efforts will not only enhance bilateral ties but also contribute positively to the broader goals of African integration and self-reliance.
