GITEX Africa Kicks Off in Marrakech
The fourth edition of the prestigious GITEX Africa technology exhibition has officially commenced in Marrakech, Morocco, bringing together 1,450 exhibitors and startups from 130 countries. The event, which spans three days, serves as a significant platform for showcasing technological advancements and innovations. During the opening ceremony, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch emphasized the country’s commitment to strategically mastering the revolution of artificial intelligence rather than merely adapting to it. He stated, “We adopt the principle of technological sovereignty and independence in decision-making and innovation,” underscoring Morocco’s emergence as a reliable hub for high-value infrastructure, scientific research, and innovation.
Significance of Artificial Intelligence and Technological Transformation
Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, the Minister of Digital Transition, also addressed the attendees, highlighting the profound transformations currently reshaping global power dynamics—not only geographically but also in technological, scientific, military, and economic contexts. She articulated that two major factors are at play today: the resurgence of high-intensity armed conflicts and the unprecedented acceleration of artificial intelligence. “Artificial intelligence is no longer just a technological tool; it has become a lever for competitiveness, a matter of sovereignty, a field of regulation, and a new mode of governance in a world marked by increasing divisions and crises,” she added. The organizers noted that GITEX Africa is an extension of GITEX Global, recognized as the world’s largest event dedicated to technology and startups. The Moroccan Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, in collaboration with the Digital Development Agency, is hosting the event, showcasing the participation of numerous Turkish companies, as noted on the official event website.
