GoSwap Secures Funding to Revolutionize Urban Mobility with Battery-Swapping Technology

GoSwap's Strategic Investment for Urban Mobility Expansion

GoSwap, a pioneering electric mobility startup based in Morocco, has recently secured seed funding from the Azur Innovation Fund, a significant step that will enable the company to enhance its battery-swapping infrastructure across urban areas. Founded in 2023 by entrepreneur Hamza Slimani, GoSwap is on a mission to transform the electric scooter market by offering a battery-as-a-service model. This innovative approach allows users to swap depleted batteries for fully charged ones in less than ten seconds, effectively addressing two of the most pressing challenges in electric vehicle (EV) adoption: high initial costs and limited range.

With the newly acquired funding, GoSwap is set to expand its operations significantly. The startup aims to increase its network of battery swap stations, which are already strategically placed at prominent locations in Casablanca, such as CashPlus, Petrom, and Shell outlets. Currently, the cost of utilizing GoSwap’s services is approximately MAD 25 to 29.4 per 100 km, making it an appealing alternative to traditional fuel-powered vehicles. This efficient model not only reduces operational costs by up to 60% but also contributes to a more sustainable urban environment.

Plans for Regional Expansion and Infrastructure Development

GoSwap's long-term vision includes a broader rollout of its services throughout Moroccan cities and potentially across North Africa. The startup is aiming for a total capital raise exceeding $2 million (over MAD 20 million) to support this ambitious expansion. The funding will not only facilitate the establishment of additional swap stations but will also enhance vehicle compatibility and improve fleet management solutions, particularly aimed at logistics and last-mile delivery services.

By localizing battery-swapping models that have been successfully implemented in various Asian markets, GoSwap is poised to create a scalable infrastructure that accelerates EV adoption in Morocco and beyond. This strategic move aligns with global trends toward sustainable transportation solutions and positions GoSwap as a leader in the burgeoning electric mobility sector within Africa.
