The Republic of Guinea has once again expressed its unwavering support for Morocco's claim of sovereignty over the Sahara region. This strong endorsement was made during a press conference held in Rabat, where Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté, Guinea's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, and Guineans Abroad, met with Nasser Bourita, Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates. The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 2nd Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in Francophone Environments.
During the meeting, Kouyaté emphasized Guinea's steadfast commitment to Morocco's territorial integrity, recognizing that the nation has consistently backed Morocco in its endeavors to maintain sovereignty over all of its territories, including the Sahara. He reiterated that Guinea stands firmly alongside Morocco and supports the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the only viable and realistic solution to the ongoing regional dispute. This position aligns with the increasing international consensus surrounding the initiative, which has gained momentum under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Furthermore, Kouyaté praised the historic decision made by the United Nations Security Council on October 31, 2025, which adopted Resolution 2797. This resolution reinforces the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, framing it as the only serious, credible, and sustainable basis for resolving the artificial dispute over the Sahara region. Through this endorsement, Guinea not only strengthens its diplomatic ties with Morocco but also positions itself as a key player in the quest for a peaceful resolution to this long-standing issue.
