Hanna Tauber Tops Leaderboard at Allegria Ladies Open
Hanna Tauber has emerged as the frontrunner in the Allegria Ladies Open (LETAS) taking place in the picturesque Burgenland region of Austria. Following a windy second day of competition, the 21-year-old golfer is poised for her first tour victory as she heads into the final round on Friday. With two impressive rounds of 69 (totaling -2), Tauber holds a one-shot lead over a quartet of competitors, including fellow German Chiara Horder, who is currently at -1. Tauber expressed her strategy for the final round, emphasizing the importance of hitting fairways and greens, particularly on the challenging par-5 holes. "Today, it was crucial to stay on target, especially with some tricky pin placements. Tomorrow, I just want to stay calm and see what I can achieve," Tauber stated confidently.
In addition to Horder, who is currently tied for second, other competitors like Lisa Marie Schumacher and Hannah Karg remain in contention with scores of +2 and +3, respectively. Unfortunately, several players, including Theresa de Bochdanovits and Kimberley Sommer, missed the cut. In an exciting highlight of the day, Swedish golfer Sofia Tjader made headlines with a hole-in-one on the 150-meter par-3 twelfth hole.
Strong Performances by German Golfers in Morocco and Denmark
Meanwhile, a strong showing by German golfers was evident at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco. The LET tournament, hosted on the stunning Blue Course at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, saw Chiara Noja kick off her campaign with a solid round of 70 (-3), placing her tied for second, just behind Australian Kelsey Bennett, who carded a 68 (-5). Notably, Aunchisa Utama of Thailand won a luxurious Range Rover for her hole-in-one on the 165-meter par-3 seventeenth hole. Noja was not alone in her success, as three other German players—Patricia Isabel Schmidt, Carolin Kauffmann, and Alexandra Försterling—also shot rounds of 71 (-2), placing them in the leading group. Other German competitors are positioned in the middle of the pack, with Laura Fünfstück at even par and Sophie Witt trailing at +4.
In Denmark, Alexander Knappe made a strong start at the Danish Golf Challenge, posting an impressive 67 (-5) with an eagle on the eighth hole. He found himself in good company, with Spaniard Juan Salama leading after the first round with a score of 65 (-7). Other German players like Anton Albers and Jannik De Bruyn also had commendable rounds, while several others finished at or near par. The week has also seen the PGA Champions tour making its presence felt in Morocco, with Alex Cejka starting off the Trophy Hassan II with a respectable 71 (-1) to sit in twelfth place after the first round. Australian Scott Hend stole the spotlight with the best round of the US senior series event, shooting a remarkable 66 (-7).
