Moroccan Justice Minister Calls for Dialogue on Territorial Rights
In a recent interview with public television channel 2M, Abdellatif Ouahbi, the Justice Minister of Morocco, reiterated the country's claims to the "historical and geographical rights" over the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla. He emphasized the importance of establishing a "space for dialogue" with Spanish authorities to address this contentious issue. Ouahbi insisted that it is imperative to defend Morocco's historical claims while seeking a definitive solution regarding the current status of these two cities.
Ouahbi's remarks come in the wake of a significant migration crisis, during which approximately 72,000 migrants entered Ceuta illegally from Morocco. Although most of these migrants have since been returned, the Moroccan government is now focused on ensuring the welfare of unaccompanied minors who managed to reach the autonomous city. In light of this situation, Ouahbi has urged the Spanish government to repatriate all Moroccan minors currently residing in Ceuta.
