Severe Heat Wave Forecast in Morocco
The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a weather alert indicating an impending heat wave across several provinces of Morocco from Wednesday to Saturday. Temperatures are projected to soar significantly, with some areas experiencing extreme highs between 45°C and 47°C. This alarming trend is particularly expected in the provinces of Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Taroudant, Tata, Zagora, Errachidia, and Aousserd, where the mercury is likely to reach these scorching levels from Wednesday through Friday.
Furthermore, a slightly lower yet still concerning temperature range of 42°C to 45°C is anticipated in provinces such as Fquih Ben Salah, El Kelaa des Sraghna, and Beni Mellal, extending from Wednesday to Saturday. Additional regions including Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Marrakech, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Khénifra, Taounate, Ouezzane, Meknes, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Sidi Kacem, Khouribga, Settat, and Chichaoua can expect similar temperatures from Thursday to Saturday.
In the southern provinces of Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan, temperatures ranging from 42°C to 45°C are forecasted for Thursday and Friday, while Essaouira and Sidi Ifni will experience milder conditions between 39°C and 42°C during the same timeframe. Lastly, provinces like Sidi Slimane, Benslimane, Khémisset, Safi, Sidi Bennour, Guercif, and Taza are expected to encounter heat conditions between 40°C and 45°C on Friday and Saturday.
The rising temperatures pose significant health risks, and residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe during this heat wave. Keeping hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak sun hours, and seeking cooler environments are essential practices during such extreme weather conditions.
