Current Weather Conditions and Forecast in Morocco
The heat wave currently gripping various regions of Morocco is expected to continue into the beginning of this week due to the sustained influence of a desert thermal low. However, forecasts indicate a gradual decline in temperatures starting Wednesday, while still maintaining relatively warm conditions in several inland and southern areas, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology.
Hussein Youabed, the communication officer at the General Directorate of Meteorology, reported that the latest weather data suggests that hot conditions will persist throughout Monday, particularly in the central inland plains, the Moulouya Valley, Souss, the southeastern regions, and the southern provinces. Maximum temperatures are anticipated to range between 41°C and 48°C, largely due to the ongoing influence of the desert thermal low affecting the kingdom.
Furthermore, Youabed mentioned in a statement to Hespress that both the afternoon and evening periods might witness the formation of unstable clouds over the Atlas Mountains and the southern eastern region, which may lead to scattered thunderstorms. During the night, low clouds accompanied by local fog are expected to form over the phosphate plateaus.
Regarding wind conditions, Youabed noted that there will be relatively strong winds along the central coast, the Atlas Mountains, the Rif, and the southern provinces, which may locally stir up dust, potentially impacting visibility in some areas.
Outlook for Tuesday and Wednesday
On Tuesday, Youabed indicated that hot weather will continue in Souss, the southeastern region, and the southern provinces, with a slight increase in temperatures expected in the southeastern areas and the southern provinces. Additionally, unstable cumulus clouds are anticipated to develop over the Atlas Mountains and their eastern slopes, which may bring localized thunderstorms.
According to the same source, low clouds and local fog are expected in the morning over the phosphate plateaus, alongside continued relatively strong winds along the central coast and in the southern provinces, with a possibility of dust blowing in some regions.
Wednesday marks the beginning of the heat wave's decline, as temperatures are expected to gradually decrease across most regions of the kingdom, although relatively warm weather will persist in Souss, the southeastern region, and the interior of the southern provinces.
Despite the anticipated drop in temperatures, there remains a chance for scattered thunderstorms to develop over the high Atlas and mid-Atlas regions, as well as in the southern eastern areas, coinciding with moderate to relatively strong winds in several regions.
From Thursday through the following Wednesday, forecasts suggest that relatively warm weather will continue in Souss, the southeastern region, and the eastern and southern provinces, with intermittent clouds appearing during the afternoon over the Atlas Mountains, the eastern region, the southeastern areas, and the far south of the kingdom, while opportunities for localized thunderstorms will still be present in these areas.
