Weather Update: Heatwave Conditions Forecasted
The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level alert for a significant heatwave expected to sweep across several provinces from Thursday to Saturday. This warning comes with forecasts of extremely high temperatures, accompanied by thunderstorms, hail, and strong gusts of wind in various regions of the kingdom.
According to the DGM's advisory, temperatures are projected to soar between 45°C and 47°C in the provinces of Oued Eddahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Taroudant, Tata, Errachidia, and Aousserd. Additionally, other areas such as Fquih Ben Salah, El Kelaâ des Sraghna, Beni Mellal, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Marrakech, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Khénifra, Taounate, Ouezzane, Meknès, Fès, Moulay Yacoub, Sidi Kacem, Khouribga, Settat, and Chichaoua can expect maximum temperatures ranging from 42°C to 45°C.
Particularly scorching conditions are forecasted for the provinces of Laâyoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan, where temperatures will likely fluctuate between 42°C and 45°C from Thursday through Friday. Moreover, the provinces of Essaouira, Tiznit, and Sidi Ifni are also set to experience high temperatures, expected to range from 39°C to 42°C.
As the weekend approaches, the DGM anticipates that temperatures may reach between 40°C and 45°C in the provinces of Sidi Slimane, Benslimane, Khémisset, Safi, Chtouka-Aït Baha, Sidi Bennour, Guercif, and Taza. Thunderstorms, along with hail and wind gusts, are anticipated on Thursday between 2 PM and 10 PM in the provinces of Khénifra, Figuig, Rehamna, and Khouribga.
