Severe Weather Warning: Heatwave and Thunderstorms Expected
In a recent alert from the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), a significant heatwave is set to impact several provinces across the Kingdom from Friday to Sunday. The forecast indicates that temperatures will soar between 44°C and 47°C in the regions of Taroudant, Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab, and Aousserd. This alert falls under a level of orange vigilance, signaling the need for caution among residents.
Additionally, neighboring provinces including Beni Mellal, Fquih Bensalah, and Kelaa des Sraghna are expected to experience slightly cooler temperatures ranging from 42°C to 44°C during the same period. This extreme heat presents potential health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.
Compounding the heat, the DGM has also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall, possible hail, and gusty winds. These storms are forecasted for Friday between 1 PM and 11 PM, particularly affecting the provinces of Khénifra, Boulemane, Figuig, Ifrane, and Midelt. Rainfall amounts could reach between 20 to 30mm, which may lead to localized flooding and hazardous conditions on the roads.
Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the extreme weather conditions anticipated over the weekend.
