Heatwave Conditions Expected Across Multiple Provinces
Morocco is bracing for a significant heatwave this coming Sunday and Monday, with temperatures soaring to potentially reach 44 °C in various provinces, as reported by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM). The provinces such as Fquih Ben Salah, Rehamna, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Ouezzane, Fès, Khémisset, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Béni Mellal, and several others are expected to experience extreme heat, with forecasts indicating temperatures fluctuating between 40 °C and the upper threshold of 44 °C.
Moreover, other regions, including Meknès, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Essaouira, Rabat, Salé, Casablanca, Safi, and Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, will witness temperatures ranging from 36 °C to 40 °C. In the southern part of the country, cities like Tan-Tan, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Laâyoune, and Tarfaya are projected to record temperatures between 38 °C and 41 °C.
Warnings of High Winds in Northern Regions
In addition to the extreme heat, the DGM has also issued an orange alert for strong winds, particularly affecting the northern prefectures of Fahs-Anjra and Tanger-Assilah. These winds are anticipated to reach speeds of 75 to 85 km/h, posing additional risks to residents in these areas. Citizens are advised to take precautions against both the blistering heat and the powerful gusts expected this weekend.
