Extreme Weather Conditions Expected Across Morocco
Morocco is bracing itself for a significant rise in temperatures, with forecasts indicating that several provinces will experience sweltering heat reaching as high as 44°C this coming Sunday and Monday. This weather alert, issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM), also warns of strong wind gusts that could reach speeds of up to 85 km/h, particularly affecting the northern regions of the country.
The provinces most likely to be impacted by these extreme temperatures include Fquih Ben Salah, Rehamna, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Ouezzane, Fez, Khemisset, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Taroudant, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Kalaat Sraghna, and Marrakech. These areas are expected to see temperatures soar between 40°C and 44°C during this period.
In addition to the scorching heat, the DGM has predicted that other regions such as Meknes, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Essaouira, and various towns along the coast will experience temperatures ranging from 36°C to 40°C. Meanwhile, places like Tan-Tan, Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Laayoune, and Tarfaya are forecasted to see temperatures between 38°C and 41°C. As such, residents are advised to take precautions to remain safe and hydrated during these extreme weather conditions.
The alert from the DGM highlights a continuing trend of elevated temperatures that have been affecting Morocco for several weeks.
