The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an alert indicating the onset of a significant heatwave accompanied by thunderstorm activity, including the potential for hail and gusty winds, across various regions of the country starting today, Thursday, and lasting until the following Friday. According to the meteorological report, a level "Orange" alert has been declared due to the anticipated temperature increases.
Temperatures are expected to reach between 42 to 45 degrees Celsius in areas such as Oued Ed-Dahab, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Oussard, Smara, Zagora, Tata, Errachidia, Marrakech, Al Haouz, Sidi Slimane, Khémisset, Ouezzane, Larache, Taounate, Moulay Yacoub, Fes, Sidi Kacem, Meknes, Fkih Ben Salah, Qalaat Sraghna, and Beni Mellal. Concurrently, temperatures between 38 and 42 degrees Celsius are predicted for regions including Settat, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Taroudant, Khouribga, Khenifra, Chichaoua, Salé, and Rabat.
In addition to the heatwave, thunderstorms with potential hail and strong winds are anticipated. Rainfall amounts may vary significantly, with predictions of 20 to 40 mm of rain in Oussard and Oued Ed-Dahab, and between 15 to 25 mm in Qalaat Sraghna, Al Haouz, Azilal, Chichaoua, Al Haouz, and Marrakech.
Officials are urging the public to exercise caution during this alert period, particularly in regions affected by high temperatures and thunderstorms, advising residents to take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impacts of these severe weather fluctuations.
