As of September 7, 2026, the General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a warning for a significant heatwave accompanied by thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds expected to affect various regions across Morocco. This alert is effective starting today and will continue until Wednesday, September 9. The forecast indicates that temperatures will soar between 42°C and 46°C in regions such as Tata, Smara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab, and Awsard during this period.
Additionally, the forecast predicts temperatures ranging from 38°C to 42°C today and tomorrow in areas including Chtouka Ait Baha, Guelmim, Laayoune, Taroudant, Tantan, Tiznit, Sidi Ifni, and Tarfaya. Similarly, cities like Marrakech, Sidi Slimane, Kenitra, Khouribga, Settat, Beni Mellal, Fkih Ben Salah, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Khénifra, Larache, Wazan, Qalaat Sraghna, Rhamna, Khemisset, Meknes, Fez, and Moulay Yacoub are expected to experience similar temperature levels today.
The meteorological department has also warned of thunderstorms expected to bring rainfall between 25mm and 35mm, with a risk of hail and strong winds in several provinces, including Midelt, Khénifra, Ifrane, Fkih Ben Salah, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Figuig, Settat, Azilal, Khouribga, Beni Mellal, Tinghir, Qalaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Rhamna, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, and Boulemane. These thunderstorms are anticipated to commence today at 2 PM and continue until 11 PM.
