Alert Issued for Extreme Weather Conditions
The General Directorate of Meteorology in Morocco has released an updated weather warning, indicating an orange alert status due to soaring temperatures expected to reach up to 44 degrees Celsius in various regions. This forecast also includes predictions of strong thunderstorms and gusty winds across other areas, particularly for today, Sunday, and extending into Monday.
According to the meteorological announcement, temperatures are anticipated to range between 40 and 44 degrees Celsius starting today through Monday in several provinces including Fkih Ben Salah, Rahamna, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Wazan, Fes, Khemisset, Sidi Bennour, and Youssoufia. Furthermore, regions such as Beni Mellal, Assa-Zag, Smara, Tata, Taroudant, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Qalaat Seraghna, and Marrakech are also expected to experience similar high temperatures.
In addition, the meteorology department forecasts that during Sunday and Monday, temperatures will hover between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius in regions such as Meknes, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Essaouira, Mediouna, Nouacer, Rabat, Salé, and other coastal and inland areas including Casablanca, Mohammedia, Khenifra, and Larache.
Meanwhile, the forecast predicts temperatures ranging from 38 to 41 degrees Celsius in the provinces of Tan-Tan, Oued Eddahab, Boujdour, Laayoune, and Tarfaya. The General Directorate has also issued a warning for local strong winds, with speeds expected to reach between 75 and 80 kilometers per hour, particularly in the province of Fahs-Anjra and the Tanger-Assilah region.
Moreover, the weather alert indicates that from 5 PM to 10 PM today, there will be a likelihood of intense thunderstorms accompanied by possible hail and wind gusts. Rainfall of approximately 25 to 30 millimeters is expected in the regions of Smara, Assa-Zag, Tan-Tan, and Guelmim.
