Rabat's Cultural Scene to Host Marco Guerra's Groundbreaking Exhibition
The vibrant cultural landscape of Rabat is set to welcome the immersive exhibition titled “The Distance Between”, dedicated to the multidisciplinary work of renowned artist Marco Guerra. This significant event will take place from October 3 to November 3, 2026, and will be organized by Atelier Qantara, marking the unveiling of the new identity of this esteemed art and cultural hub, previously known as Maison Qantara.
Situated at the Warsha Gallery in the Four Seasons Hotel Rabat at Kasr Al Bahr, the exhibition will prominently feature “Volumes & Lines”, a collection of artworks that Guerra has developed over a rigorous span of seven years of research. This body of work draws inspiration from the unique geometry of North African irrigation cisterns. Through these structures, Guerra engages in a broader contemplation of themes such as memory, materiality, nature, and perception, exploring how these elements intertwine.
Born in Chile and currently dividing his time between New York and Marrakech, Guerra's artistic practice spans various disciplines, focusing on the relationship between humanity, its environment, and the traces of time. His work transcends mere photographic dimensions, evolving into installations that weave together imagery, space, and sensory experiences. The “Volumes & Lines” series has previously been showcased in notable cultural and artistic venues, including the Dar El Bacha Gallery in Marrakech, the El Badii Palace during the Photography Encounters, and the TGCC/Artorium Foundation in Casablanca.
A Unique Sensory Experience Awaits Visitors
In Rabat, “The Distance Between” promises to offer a unique sensory experience that harmonizes visual and auditory elements. The exhibition aims to create a dialogue between contrasting themes: the water contained within the photographed structures and the movement of the Atlantic Ocean, the rigidity of concrete versus the fluidity of natural elements, and the physical and symbolic distances separating the viewer from the artwork. The very title of the exhibition refers to this intermediate space, inviting the audience to contemplate the interactions occurring “between” forms, materials, landscapes, and perspectives, where contemplation becomes an integral part of the installation.
A VIP opening is scheduled for October 1, featuring Marco Guerra himself, ahead of the public opening on October 3. This event also coincides with the rebranding of Maison Qantara to Atelier Qantara. The organization aims to foster a programming agenda that intersects heritage, contemporary creation, and artistic craftsmanship, with the ambition of establishing new connections between disciplines, artists, and audiences.
