Harsh Sentencing for Impersonating a Nurse
A court in Marrakech has sentenced an individual to 18 months in prison for impersonating a nurse, facilitating abortion, and committing fraud and corruption. The court also imposed a fine of 5,000 dirhams and mandated that the perpetrator pay 200,000 dirhams in civil compensation to the victim. This sentence came after the victim's health deteriorated due to medications prescribed by the impersonator, necessitating her urgent hospitalization at the end of last month.
The case dates back to late July when a young woman in her thirties was admitted to the emergency department in a critical state. Medical examinations revealed that her severe health issues stemmed from taking medications typically used for abortions, which had been given to her by the accused. After her condition improved, the victim filed a complaint with the relevant security authorities, leading to an investigation that identified the suspect and resulted in his arrest before being referred to the public prosecutor.
