Inaugural National Archives Conference in Morocco
The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Communication in collaboration with the Archives Institution of Morocco and the Royal Academy of Morocco is set to host the inaugural National Archives Conference on April 8, 2026, in Rabat. This significant event, held under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aims to foster a national dialogue regarding the pivotal issues surrounding archival governance. The goal is to formulate a comprehensive national roadmap for the management of public archives in Morocco for the period spanning 2026 to 2036.
This conference is designed to elevate the status of archives as a fundamental component of governance and transparency. It will explore strategic perspectives while encouraging dialogue among decision-makers, researchers, and industry professionals. Furthermore, the initiative aspires to develop an integrated, modern, and inclusive national archival policy that recognizes archives as a shared heritage and a catalyst for sustainable development. The event will also promote the exchange of experiences and best practices within the public archives management sector.
Among the objectives of this conference are the establishment of a comprehensive review of archival practices in Morocco and the formulation of actionable recommendations to address current and future challenges in the archives domain. It will also seek to enhance cooperation between institutions, including public administrations, researchers, local authorities, and international partners, while promoting digital transformation in the handling and preservation of archival heritage.
The sessions will feature participation from government officials, institutional leaders, and both Moroccan and international experts. They will be organized into nine thematic sessions addressing various topics, such as “National Policy for Archive Management: Towards a Shared Archival Vision,” “Regional Archives as Levers for Local Democracy and Territorial Development,” and “Private Archives in Morocco: Challenges and Integration Perspectives into National Heritage.” Additional discussions will include “Digitization, Artificial Intelligence, and Archival Innovation,” “Archives and Knowledge Economy Contributions,” “Archives as Sources of Knowledge and Academic Research Tools,” and “International Cooperation, Archival Sovereignty, and Partnerships.”
