Severe Heat Wave Sweeping Across Morocco
According to a recent alert issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology, a significant heat wave is set to strike several provinces in Morocco, with temperatures soaring between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius. This extreme weather is expected to persist from Sunday, August 9, until Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The affected regions include Tata, Assa-Zag, Smara, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab, and Aousserd, where residents should prepare for the sweltering conditions that lie ahead.
Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall Alongside the Heat
In addition to the intense heat, the meteorological report anticipates thunderstorms, with rainfall amounts expected to range from 20 to 30 millimeters. These storms may also be accompanied by hail and strong winds, particularly affecting the provinces of Sefrou, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Al Haouz, Boulemane, Khénifra, Ifrane, and Taza. The thunderstorms are projected to begin at 1 PM and continue until 11 PM on Sunday. As such, authorities have issued an orange alert to ensure that residents remain vigilant during this period of extreme weather.
