Interfaith Iftar Promoting Harmony in Casablanca
On the evening of March 2, 2026, Casablanca hosted the sixteenth edition of the "Multicultural and Interfaith Iftar" initiative, a yearly event dedicated to celebrating values of coexistence, peace, and tolerance among different faiths. This year's gathering, which brought together Muslims, Jews, and Christians under the theme "Youth, a Thousand Horizons. One Moroccan Identity," exemplified the harmonious coexistence of monotheistic religions in Morocco, fostering a sense of community and shared feelings among attendees.
The event, organized by the associations "Moroccans in Plural" and "Peace L'Koulalam," was graced by the presence of André Azoulay, the King's advisor and founder of the Essaouira-Mogador Association, along with notable figures from various sectors. The event also featured significant diplomatic participation, including representatives from the United States, Australia, Canada, Senegal, and France, who highlighted the importance of interfaith dialogue and cooperation.
During the event, seven young Moroccans were honored for their exceptional contributions in various fields across the globe, receiving "medals of coexistence" as a testament to their achievements. In his speech, Azoulay emphasized Morocco's commitment to unity and its role as a beacon of hope amid rising exclusion and extremism in many parts of the world. He articulated that under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco embodies a unique identity that unifies its people and encourages them to draw strength from their diverse historical backgrounds.
Azoulay further stated, "In an international community that increasingly seeks reference points, Morocco firmly establishes its roots in the promotion of a vibrant social and cultural reality, enabling us to develop together in a peaceful dialogue that respects the history and spirituality of each individual." His remarks underscored the event's significance not only as a traditional protocol but as a genuine acknowledgment of Morocco's potential to inspire a culture of peace and resilience beyond its borders.
Katya Beiton, co-president of "Peace L'Koulalam," reiterated the importance of the collective iftar as an annual gathering that encapsulates the essence of Morocco's values of tolerance and coexistence. She highlighted that this year’s event honored Moroccan youth working and traveling around the world while carrying a strong Moroccan identity and proudly waving the national flag. "Together, we can achieve anything, as Morocco has taught us to remain united. I hope peace and brotherhood return to the world during this holy month," she expressed.
Ahmad Ghiat, president of the "Moroccans in Plural" association, noted that this edition was dedicated to celebrating Moroccan youth from around the world, including those from Belgium, Canada, and France. He emphasized that the collective iftar showcases diversity in all its aspects, reflecting the values of brotherhood and coexistence within Morocco and sending a message of peace that transcends borders.
Throughout the event, an Imam, a Rabbi, and a Pastor shared a table, conveying messages of peace, understanding, and unity, further strengthened by a musical performance by artist Rita Souk.
