International Invention Show in Geneva: International University of Rabat Wins Four Awards

International University of Rabat Achieves Historic Success at Geneva Invention Show

The International University of Rabat (UIR) has made a remarkable impression at the 51st edition of the International Invention Show held in Geneva, showcasing Morocco's innovative spirit on a global stage. This prestigious event, which took place from March 11 to 15, 2026, brought together over 1,000 inventions from 35 countries and regions, making it the largest annual gathering dedicated solely to invention and innovation. With a jury comprised of international experts evaluating the entries, the competition was fierce, yet UIR stood out, securing four medals along with the coveted Prize from the Chinese Delegation for Invention and Innovation.

This achievement marks a historic milestone for Moroccan representation at the Geneva Invention Show, as it is the first time a Moroccan delegation has won one of the Grand Prizes. The innovations that earned these accolades originated directly from UIR's research laboratories, highlighting the university's commitment to advancing knowledge and technology.

Among the awarded innovations, the first gold medal was awarded for a comprehensive solution designed to extract fractured endodontic instruments, developed by researchers from the engineering and health sectors at UIR. This device incorporates an ultra-fine internal fiber that facilitates the controlled retrieval of broken fragments in root canals, significantly reducing both the duration of procedures and the risk of tissue damage.

The second gold medal recognized a spiral Archimedes wind turbine featuring passive speed regulation, crafted by a multidisciplinary engineering team. This turbine integrates a passive regulation system through articulated centrifugal flaps that automatically limit rotation during strong winds, enhancing the safety and reliability of the installation without the need for electronic sensors or external energy sources.

Additionally, a bronze medal was awarded for an intelligent monitoring system for chronic respiratory diseases, developed by artificial intelligence researchers at Ticlab. This innovative solution utilizes Edge-AI algorithms to provide real-time monitoring and personalized management of patients by integrating physiological, environmental, and behavioral data collected via connected sensors, thus enabling proactive and tailored healthcare for each individual.

Finally, another bronze medal, along with the Prize from the Chinese Delegation for Invention and Innovation, was awarded for an advanced manufacturing process of waterproof and anti-seismic construction materials made from recycled local resources. This initiative, a collaboration between UIR's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a partnering private enterprise, combines academic expertise with industry experience to develop high-performance materials derived from dredging sludge, addressing the ecological and economic needs for sustainable infrastructure and rural roadways.

The recognition from the Chinese Delegation underscores the international significance and impact of the collaborative research conducted at UIR. The university boasts a portfolio of 734 patents, positioning it as a leader in innovation among African universities for the sixth consecutive year.
