Investigation into Financial Mismanagement by Police Officer

In a significant development, a police officer in Marrakech has been suspended amid growing concerns regarding the handling of funds associated with a detained woman. The case has prompted the General Directorate of National Security (DGNS) to initiate an administrative inquiry, focusing on the circumstances surrounding a sum of money that was reportedly taken from the vehicle of the arrested individual, who was under police supervision at the time.

The incident unfolded last Sunday when the officer was assigned to oversee a group of detained women. During this time, one of the detainees requested that the officer retrieve some personal belongings and a cash sum amounting to 8,000 dirhams from her vehicle parked near the Menara Gardens. The detainee claimed this money was intended for her bail related to her ongoing legal case.

After receiving permission from her superior to leave her post, the officer went to the vehicle and returned to her workplace with the requested belongings and the cash. However, the situation took a different turn the following day during a precautionary search conducted prior to the detainee's referral to the public prosecutor. During this search, another police officer discovered that the detainee possessed only 4,000 dirhams.

This revelation raised serious questions about the whereabouts of the remaining funds that were supposed to be brought to the detainee, especially as she indicated that the money found on her was part of the amount she had requested from her vehicle, suggesting that the suspended officer was responsible for its delivery.

In light of these developments, the relevant authorities within the Marrakech Security Directorate have commenced an administrative investigation to clarify all aspects of the incident. They aim to hear from all parties involved and to trace the path of the money from the vehicle to the detainee, ensuring adherence to established professional protocols and procedures.

While the investigation is ongoing, the DGNS has taken the precautionary measure of suspending the officer in question from duty as part of the administrative process concerning the incident. This suspension does not imply any final determination of responsibility before the inquiry has been completed.
