Three Israeli airlines are set to commence direct flights to Marrakech by November, responding to a surge in demand that has already seen approximately 20,000 tickets reserved for the upcoming holiday season. Israir, in tandem, is looking to establish a weekly route to Casablanca. Major carriers Arkia, Israir, and Sun d’Or, a leisure subsidiary of El Al, will all service Marrakech this fall, marking the return of Israeli transporters to Morocco after nearly three years of disruptions in direct flight connections.
Arkia was the first airline to resume its flights to Morocco this past summer, with Israir following suit in September. Israir is now preparing to offer two weekly flights between Tel Aviv and Marrakech from early November until early January. Additionally, Israir aims to initiate a weekly direct flight to Casablanca starting in November. The airline has submitted a request to the relevant authorities and is currently awaiting approval. This new route would facilitate travel circuits with arrivals in Marrakech and departures from Casablanca, or vice versa, enhancing connectivity for travelers.
Sun d’Or is expected to join the operations on November 16, providing two flights per week between Tel Aviv and Marrakech. The El Al subsidiary had suspended this destination following the outbreak of conflict in October 2023. The demand for travel to Morocco appears robust, with estimates indicating that around 20,000 tickets have already been booked for holiday travel, according to industry sources cited by Al Majalla.
With three Israeli airlines now in direct competition starting in November, travel professionals interviewed by JNS anticipate that this increase in flights will lead to lower prices and a faster return of organized tours to the region. However, one airline remains notably absent from this resurgence: Royal Air Maroc has yet to announce a date or schedule for the resumption of its own direct flights to Tel Aviv.
