Migrations & Développement (M&D) is a French-Moroccan association established in 1986 by migrants, aimed at facilitating co-development initiatives in their native villages located in the Atlas and Anti-Atlas regions. M&D emphasizes the positive dynamics of migration as a driving force for development between the diverse shores of the Mediterranean. Since its inception, M&D has developed a comprehensive intervention methodology grounded in two core objectives: first, to create an environment where individuals can choose to live and work in their territories, leave, or return, while remaining open to others, particularly through the involvement of diaspora networks; and second, to commit to four main engagements reaffirmed in its 2020-2025 strategy. These commitments include enhancing social ties through an inclusive and sustainable territorial development model that addresses social and climate challenges, fostering partnerships and participatory approaches to create synergy among various stakeholders, bridging the Mediterranean shores by promoting citizenship education and international solidarity, and advocating for social change through active engagement.
Recruitment Context and Position Description
In the framework of the "AMUSSU: Empowering Civil Society in Morocco for Good Governance, Environment, and Climate" project, Migrations & Développement is currently seeking a Project Assistant based in Agadir. This project, primarily funded by the European Union, is set to conclude in February 2027. The AMUSSU initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Association of Life and Earth Sciences Teachers (AESVT) and Cooperazione per lo Sviluppo dei Paesi Emergenti (COSPE), aims to bolster Moroccan civil society's ability to engage in constructive dialogue with public authorities, fostering conditions for participatory and inclusive consultation processes. The project adopts a systemic approach to tackle climate, environmental, and governance challenges that are integral to national and territorial development policies and civil society demands, particularly within the context of advanced decentralization and regionalization.
The AMUSSU project primarily targets Moroccan civil society organizations (CSOs) operating at both inter-regional and national levels, comprising a diverse array of changemakers. This includes CSOs advocating for improved governance and interacting with public authorities in areas such as anti-corruption, accountability, and access to information; CSOs focused on environmental protection and climate change mitigation; and those engaged in socio-economic initiatives that deliver significant social and environmental impact, particularly in circular economy and waste management, with a focus on youth and women.
The Project Assistant will report directly to the Operations Director and will support project coordination in planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on project activities. Key responsibilities include operational coordination with partners, assisting in the production of analyses, deliverables, and monitoring tools to ensure effective project execution. The role requires strong analytical, synthesis, writing, and organizational skills.
Interested candidates should possess a Master's degree in political science, social sciences, territorial development, project management, or a related field, along with a minimum of two years' experience in a similar position. Previous experience with NGOs or projects financed by international donors is an asset. The contract offered is for a 12-month International Solidarity Volunteer position, with a full-time workload. The anticipated start date is mid-September, preceded by mandatory preparatory training. Monthly compensation includes a stipend of €950, a one-time installation bonus of €200, round-trip airfare, and comprehensive insurance coverage.
