Candidate Selections for Upcoming Elections
The General Secretariat of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) convened once again on Saturday, May 16, 2026, under the leadership of Secretary-General Abdelilah Benkirane, who presides over the endorsement authority. During this meeting, the committee deliberated and made decisions through secret voting regarding the endorsement of candidates for nine regional electoral districts and ten local electoral districts for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. The committee indicated that further deliberation is needed for the remaining local electoral districts and one regional electoral district, with results to be published subsequently.
The endorsement authority confirmed the candidacies of several notable individuals, including Hind Al-Biki in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra district, Al-Haja Raki in the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra district, Fatima Zahra Kweiss in the Guelmim-Oued Noun district, Masouda Hama Lail in the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab district, and Samira Otaleb in the Fes-Meknes district. Additionally, Hind Rouisi will represent the Marrakech-Safi district, Dunya Al-Saqli will run in the Eastern district, Fawzia Qarifad will contest in the Béni Mellal-Khénifra district, and Majdoline Rouzi will be the candidate for the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima district.
Local District Candidacies and Future Steps
In terms of local districts, the endorsement authority has also settled on candidates such as Abdel Halim Allawi in the Wazan electoral district, Mohamed Bakiri in the Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane district, and Mohamed Labreidi Ghazi in the Béni Mellal district. Other candidates include Yassine Ait Jadida in the Smara electoral district, Abdel Majid Benchenouf in the Northern Fes district, Abdel Wahab Al-Tajmati in the Figuig district, and Mohamed Drissi in the Boulemane district, along with Jilali Kazawi in the Midelt district, Amjid Al-Nakka in the Sidi Slimane district, and Rashid Hashimi in the Youssoufia district.
The endorsement authority highlighted that further arrangements for the remaining candidates in each local electoral list will be conducted in accordance with established procedures and the applicable memorandum, based on the list of candidates proposed by the list's representative in consultation with the relevant local secretary. Regarding regional electoral lists, the authority stated that arrangements for additional candidates will also be made based on the lists provided by the regional nomination committees, with the option to delegate the arrangement of candidates, either wholly or partially, to the relevant regional secretariats.
