King Mohammed VI Leads Eid al-Fitr Prayer in Rabat Amidst Festivities

Royal Observance of Eid al-Fitr in Rabat

On March 20, 2026, Morocco’s King Mohammed VI participated in the Eid al-Fitr prayer held at the Ahl Fes mosque, located in the Mechouar district of Rabat. Accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, along with other royal family members including Prince Moulay Rachid, Prince Moulay Ahmed, and Prince Moulay Ismail, the king journeyed from the Royal Palace to the mosque in a ceremonial procession, greeted by enthusiastic crowds who gathered to extend their Eid greetings as a celebration marking the end of Ramadan.

Upon his arrival, King Mohammed VI was honored by a detachment from the Royal Guard, showcasing the formalities that accompany such significant religious occasions. Following the prayer, the imam delivered an insightful sermon that focused on the profound spiritual implications of Ramadan, emphasizing it as a time for piety, devotion, and divine blessings. The imam reflected on the worshipful atmosphere that characterized the month and noted its highlight, Laylat al Qadr, which took place under the king's leadership in his role as Amir Al Mouminine, or Commander of the Faithful.

In his sermon, the imam articulated the essence of Eid as a moment filled with joy and gratitude, urging believers to express thanks to God for the blessings received during Ramadan and to pray for the acceptance of their fasting, prayers, and good deeds. He concluded with heartfelt prayers for the well-being of the king, the success of his endeavors, and blessings upon the royal family, while also honoring the memories of the late Kings Mohammed V and Hassan II.

Post-Ceremony Celebrations and Greetings

Following the religious ceremony, ambassadors from various Islamic nations accredited in Morocco came forward to convey their personal congratulations to the king. Subsequently, King Mohammed VI returned to the Royal Palace, where he received Eid greetings from Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid, the head of government, and the speakers of both legislative chambers, along with senior judicial officials and prominent representatives from civilian and military sectors.

This significant observance came after Morocco officially declared that Eid al-Fitr would be celebrated on March 20, following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent within the kingdom. The day was marked not only by religious observance but also by a sense of unity and community spirit among the Moroccan people.
