The SKY RAIDER II International is among the key offerings L3Harris will present at the event, held at the Royal Moroccan Air Force base. In addition to this advanced aircraft, L3Harris will also highlight its solutions for the C-130, along with intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems. This presentation is particularly significant as L3Harris is actively collaborating with the Moroccan military, currently modernizing several C-130H aircraft at its facilities in Waco, Texas. The first aircraft has completed its inspection, with a second scheduled to join the program this fall and a third by the end of the year.
The SKY RAIDER II International, previously marketed as the Sky Warden, is derived from the Air Tractor AT-802 and is aimed at foreign military forces. Its American counterpart, the OA-1K Skyraider II, is utilized by the U.S. Air Force's special operations forces. L3Harris positions this aircraft as a cost-effective solution for missions where operating a fighter jet like the F-16 may be prohibitively expensive. According to L3Harris, transitioning certain missions from fighter jets to the SKY RAIDER II could yield savings of between $20,000 and $40,000 per flight hour, with only two mechanics required for operational support.
This aircraft boasts the capability to conduct missions for up to five hours while operating approximately 460 kilometers from its base. It can transport various sensors and precision weaponry while being able to take off and land on rudimentary airstrips. The SKY RAIDER II is particularly well-suited for border surveillance and counter-drone missions, in addition to strike and reconnaissance tasks.
As L3Harris seeks to position the SKY RAIDER II International as a complementary asset to fourth and fifth-generation fighter fleets, the strategic significance of its presentation in Marrakech cannot be overstated.
