Jordan Football Association Welcomes New Leadership
The Jordan Football Association has made a significant announcement regarding the future of women's football in the country by appointing Moroccan coach Lamia Boumehdi as the head coach of the Jordan women’s national football team. In addition to her primary role, Boumehdi will serve as the assistant technical director for women's football, overseeing the development and management of the nation's women's national teams. This strategic move underscores the federation's commitment to enhancing the performance and visibility of women's football in Jordan.
Bringing a wealth of experience in both coaching and technical management, Boumehdi has an impressive track record. She previously led the women's team at TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2022 to 2025 and also took charge of the DR Congo women's national football team in 2025. Her responsibilities included supervising the football academy at the club, where she played a crucial role in nurturing young talent.
A Proven Track Record in Women's Football
From 2016 to 2022, Boumehdi was an integral part of the national technical administration of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. During this time, she coordinated various programs aimed at training women coaches across Morocco and successfully guided several national youth teams. Notably, in 2020, she was at the helm of the Morocco women’s national football team, further solidifying her credentials in women's football coaching.
Among her numerous achievements, Boumehdi notably led TP Mazembe to victory in the CAF Women’s Champions League in 2024. Her exceptional coaching skills were recognized as she received the award for the best women's football coach in Africa for two consecutive years, 2024 and 2025, and secured a place among the top three coaches in Africa in 2025. Furthermore, she holds multiple coaching certifications from the Confederation of African Football, including the prestigious CAF A coaching license, and serves as a certified CAF instructor.
Prior to Boumehdi's appointment, the Jordanian men's national football team was under the guidance of Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami, who has been at the helm since 2024. Sellami led Jordan to a commendable third-place finish in the 2022 WAFF Championship and helped the team advance to the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. His efforts have resulted in significant improvements in the AFC rankings and a qualification for the 2026 World Cup, marking a notable return for the team after several years of absence. Additionally, Sellami faced his home country, Morocco, in a challenging final during the 2025 Arab Cup in Doha, Qatar, where Jordan finished as the runner-up after a fiercely contested match.
