Launch of the Fifth High-Level Meeting on Counter-Terrorism in Africa: The Marrakech Platform

Inauguration of the Marrakech Platform for Counter-Terrorism

On Tuesday, the city of El Jadida, Morocco, witnessed the inauguration of the fifth high-level meeting dedicated to counter-terrorism and security agencies across Africa, known as the "Marrakech Platform." This significant event is co-chaired by the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, emphasizing the collaborative efforts to combat the persistent threat of terrorism on the continent.

The two-day gathering features participation from approximately forty intelligence and security agencies from various African nations. Additionally, it welcomes around ninety delegations from the Middle East, Europe, America, and Asia in an observer capacity, highlighting the global interest in enhancing international cooperation against terrorism.

This high-stakes meeting also includes representatives from regional UN institutions, reinforcing the international commitment to addressing the evolving security landscape. Given the ongoing and shifting nature of terrorist threats in Africa, this meeting is part of a continuous series of dialogues that have previously taken place in Marrakech (2022), Tangier (2023), Fez (2024), and Agadir (2025).

The significance of this edition of the Marrakech Platform is underscored by the attention it has garnered from both African nations and international partners, reflecting its central role in the global counter-terrorism framework. The platform has established itself as a vital venue for enhancing knowledge exchange, strengthening regional collaboration, and identifying capacity-building priorities in the realm of counter-terrorism across Africa.
