L’Boulevard Festival Attracts Massive Crowds in Casablanca
The vibrant city of Casablanca recently hosted the 24th edition of L’Boulevard Festival, a music extravaganza that drew an impressive total of 75,000 festivalgoers from September 17 to 20. This annual event took place at the R.U.C. Stadium and showcased a diverse array of over 33 performances from artists hailing from Morocco, France, Brazil, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, and Belgium, covering a wide range of genres including rap, rock, metal, electronic music, dub, soul, and various hybrid styles.
The festival's rap and hip-hop lineup proved to be the main attraction, captivating the largest audience. The festivities kicked off with DJ Mikebeatz23, followed by notable performances from Bo9al, DJ Fly, Figoshin, and Dizzy Dros, who made a memorable return with a live band after previous appearances in 2013 and 2019. The Moroccan music scene was prominently featured, with standout acts like Rhita Nattah, Bab L’Bluz, and Issam Kamal & Mazagan taking the stage.
In addition to the local talent, the rock and metal segments included performances from Mycose of You, 2015 Tremplin winners Suicide Machine, and Sotherion. A highlight of the festival was the return of the Brazilian band Sepultura, who graced the stage 16 years after their initial appearance, as part of their farewell world tour. The festival concluded with an electrifying closing program that brought together artists such as Remork & Karkaba featuring Bnat Bambara, Omar EK, Aziz Konkrite, Kin’Gongolo Kiniata, and Sarāb, with Zentone delivering a captivating reggae-dub performance to wrap up the festivities.
Throughout the festival, the Tremplin competition showcased the talents of fifteen artists and groups from September 17 to 19. Winners included Shinohidden and BrownY Original in the Rap/Hip-Hop category, Metrotune and Arinass in Fusion/Other Contemporary Music, and Lixivia and Darih in Rock/Metal. Each of the six winners will receive financial awards, a week of training, and the chance to record a track at Studio HIBA. Since its inception in 1999, the Tremplin competition has provided a platform for over 765 Moroccan acts to showcase their talents.
Beyond the musical performances, the festival also featured a vibrant Souk with over 30 stands operated by associations, artists, artisans, and designers. Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including Colokolo circus performances, dance floors hosted by Liquid Bridge, a climbing wall from Tla3climb, a brass band, video games, cosplay, and workshops, ensuring a festive atmosphere that extended beyond the music itself.
