The Republic of Madagascar has reiterated its commitment to the principle of territorial integrity for member states of the United Nations, expressing its support for the respect of the sovereignty and territorial unity of the Kingdom of Morocco. This position was articulated in a joint statement following discussions held on Tuesday in Rabat between Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, and Alice Nday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar.
In this joint statement, Madagascar reaffirmed its supportive stance regarding the exclusive role of the United Nations, as well as the efforts of the Secretary-General and his personal envoy aimed at resolving the ongoing dispute over the Sahara region. The statement highlighted Madagascar's approval of United Nations Security Council resolution 2797, emphasizing that "a genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty represents the most viable solution" to the dispute.
Furthermore, Madagascar expressed its backing for the autonomy initiative put forth by the Kingdom of Morocco, which aligns with the ongoing international consensus surrounding this initiative, a momentum significantly bolstered by the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
