Significant Drug Interdiction Operations in Algeria

This week, national security forces achieved a significant breakthrough in their ongoing battle against drug trafficking, leading to the dismantling of two organized crime networks operating in western Algeria. Authorities successfully seized an impressive total of 136 kilograms of processed cannabis, which was reportedly smuggled from Morocco, and apprehended four individuals linked to these illicit activities. According to a statement released by the security services, the first operation was conducted by the regional anti-drug trafficking unit in Béchar, thwarting an attempt to transport a shipment of 79.25 kilograms of processed cannabis. This operation resulted in the arrest of three members of the criminal network and the recovery of a significant amount of money totaling 36.5 million Algerian dinars derived from their illegal activities.

In a second, similarly successful effort, officers from the mobile judicial police unit in Sidi Bel Abbès managed to seize an additional 57 kilograms of processed cannabis. This operation effectively disrupted the functioning of the organized crime group, leading to the arrest of one of its members and the seizure of a vehicle used to transport the narcotics. The arrested suspects have since been presented to the public prosecutor at the courts in Béchar and Sidi Bel Abbès for appropriate legal action.
