Major Drug Trafficking Networks Dismantled in Morocco: A Coordinated Operation by DGSN and DGST

Significant Drug Busts Across Multiple Cities

The Moroccan judicial police, in close collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), executed a series of extensive operations targeting illicit drug trafficking from Monday evening into the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, 2026. These coordinated efforts resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of substantial quantities of narcotics across various locations, including Aït Melloul, Marrakech, Casablanca, and Rabat.

The first operation, which took place in Aït Melloul, led to the apprehension of an individual who was subject to a national search warrant. The suspect was caught red-handed while driving a utility vehicle equipped with false license plates. Authorities managed to seize an impressive haul consisting of 1,538 kilograms of kif (hashish) and 218 kilograms of smuggled tobacco.

Simultaneously, a second intervention occurred in the rural area of Knan Zmamra, near Kelâat Sraghna, where law enforcement intercepted another utility vehicle carrying two suspects, one of whom was wanted on a national level. This operation yielded 476 kilograms of kif, 105 kilograms of contraband tobacco, along with 700 grams of cocaine and 1.7 kilograms of cannabis resin (known as chira). Additionally, an unauthorized shotgun and 13 cartridges were confiscated during this bust.

The security operations continued with a third major intervention at the Bouskoura toll station. Here, an employee of a rescue institution was arrested along with two accomplices while transporting 137 kilograms of chira in their vehicle. Subsequent investigations directed the authorities to a warehouse located in the rural commune of Bouanana, near Safi, where an additional 600 kilograms of cannabis resin were discovered, bringing the total to an impressive 737 kilograms seized.

Finally, in Témara, a fourth operation resulted in the arrest of an individual riding a motorcycle who was found in possession of illegal substances. Searches conducted in Benslimane revealed 900 psychotropic pills of the type Rivotril, 30 grams of cocaine, and just over one kilogram of chira.

All suspects have been placed in custody pending judicial investigations supervised by the appropriate public prosecutors. Ongoing inquiries are actively seeking to uncover any possible national or international connections related to these criminal networks and to identify additional potential accomplices.
