Transformative Infrastructure Project in Marrakech
Marrakech is currently undergoing significant renovations and expansions along Habib Farqani Street as part of a comprehensive project aimed at enhancing road infrastructure, improving traffic flow, and increasing road safety. This ambitious initiative also seeks to upgrade pedestrian areas and create dedicated lanes for cyclists, ensuring a more organized and secure environment for all road users.
The project spans approximately 5 kilometers, starting from the Belarif Roundabout on Casablanca Road, passing through the intersection with Abdel Karim Al-Khatabi Street, and culminating at the underpass at Bab Khmiss, where it meets 11 January Street. One of the key features of this project includes the reconfiguration of the roadway to accommodate three lanes for vehicular traffic in each direction, complemented by a dedicated bike lane in both directions. This strategic design is poised to improve traffic organization and provide safer conditions for all users of the road.
In addition to roadway enhancements, the project encompasses the refurbishment and renewal of sidewalks and pedestrian paths to bolster safety and comfort for foot traffic. Urban furniture and public lighting will also be upgraded, alongside the rehabilitation of stormwater drainage systems to mitigate the impact of rainfall on both vehicle and pedestrian movement. Furthermore, the project will enhance horizontal and vertical road signage, along with various safety indicators and equipment, with the aim of elevating safety standards along this vital thoroughfare, which experiences heavy traffic.
Upon completion, these developments are expected to significantly enhance the quality of transportation along Habib Farqani Street, thereby boosting the appeal of the surrounding urban area. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to modernize the road infrastructure in Marrakech, aligning with the city's growing urbanization and increasing mobility demands.
