Major Security Operations Lead to Arrests of Dual Nationals in Morocco

Significant Arrests in Morocco Following Coordinated Security Operations

On June 8, 2023, a series of coordinated security operations conducted by the National Police, in collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, resulted in the apprehension of 11 individuals. Among those arrested, 10 hold dual citizenships of Moroccan, French, Belgian, and Dutch nationalities, along with one French citizen. These arrests were made due to outstanding national and international arrest warrants issued against them.

The suspects were detained during simultaneous security operations carried out in the cities of Marrakech and Tangier. An analysis of their profiles through the databases of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) revealed that ten of these individuals were subjects of Red Notices requested by judicial authorities in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Specifically, six French citizens of Moroccan descent were wanted under warrants issued by the French judiciary for their involvement in various criminal activities, including money laundering, affiliation with organized crime groups engaged in drug trafficking, and fraud. Additionally, three Belgian citizens of Moroccan origin were sought by Belgian authorities for their role in international drug distribution.

Among those arrested was also a Dutch citizen of Moroccan descent, who was subject to an international Red Notice on suspicion of involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering activities.

Furthermore, the operations led to the arrest of a French national who was found to be the subject of a national arrest warrant issued by the National Judicial Police Brigade for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case.

Accompanying these arrests were extensive searches that resulted in the seizure of various luxury watches, personal belongings, vehicles, and motorcycles, along with substantial amounts of cash in both national and foreign currencies, bank cards, mobile phones, and amounts of cocaine, as well as passports and identification documents belonging to the suspects.

The arrested individuals have been placed under police custody pending investigations directed by the relevant public prosecutor's offices, as authorities pursue inquiries into the criminal activities attributed to them, based on formal complaints from foreign judicial bodies, necessitating their submission to legal proceedings in accordance with national law due to their Moroccan nationality.
