Marrakech Council Initiates Development Agenda
On Thursday, the Marrakech Council convened its regular session for the month of May, presided over by Mohamed Idrissi, the first deputy to Mayor Fatima Zahra Mansouri. This session is part of an ongoing effort to monitor significant developmental projects aimed at enhancing the city's urban attractiveness and improving the quality of public services provided to residents. The council discussed several developmental and administrative issues, primarily focusing on infrastructure, the enhancement of local services, the improvement of urban transport, the rehabilitation of public spaces, as well as boosting investment and strengthening institutional partnerships, which are considered vital for achieving local development.
During the session, Idrissi emphasized that the discussions commenced with contributions from council members who addressed various challenges faced by certain neighborhoods. They provided observations and suggestions related to improving essential services, reflecting the council's commitment to engaging with residents' expectations and systematically addressing their concerns in a practical manner.
Key Decisions on Urban Transport and Infrastructure
A significant topic of discussion was the relocation of the passenger bus station from its current location at Bab Doukkala to a new site in the Al-Azouziah area. Idrissi highlighted that the council approved multiple arrangements related to this transition, including agreements for management with the local development company “Marrakech Moussafir.” Additionally, the council ratified the internal regulations governing access and operations within the new station. According to Idrissi, the Al-Azouziah bus station is now ready following a series of technical and coordination meetings with various stakeholders. This move is part of a comprehensive plan to reorganize urban transport and enhance the efficiency of passenger movement within the city.
Furthermore, the council approved a project to convert the land originally designated for the poultry market in the Al-Azouziah area into an organized parking space for cars and bicycles. This initiative aims to improve the infrastructure accompanying the new station and alleviate traffic congestion in the surrounding area, especially with the anticipated increase in mobility following the station's inauguration. Idrissi stressed that this decision is part of a holistic approach aimed at restructuring spaces related to urban transport and providing practical solutions for traffic management. The council also approved the specifications related to the occupation of municipal public property within the vicinity of the station, ensuring the regulation of usage and compliance with established organizational rules.
