Marrakech Court Reduces Sentence for Influencer of Algerian Descent
In a significant ruling, the Marrakech Court of Appeals has decided to reduce the prison sentence of a French influencer of Algerian descent from one year to ten months. The influencer, approximately 30 years old, had previously been convicted by the Marrakech Court of First Instance for disseminating digital content that included derogatory remarks against Moroccan citizens, as well as accusations of bribery against several public officials.
The case dates back to June when local law enforcement apprehended the influencer at Marrakech Menara Airport while she was attempting to leave the country for France. This arrest followed a warrant issued for her capture. After her detention, she underwent the necessary legal procedures before being presented to the competent public prosecutor. Subsequently, she was brought before the court while in custody, leading to the ongoing judicial process that culminated in this recent appellate decision.
The initial judgment included a monetary fine of 2,000 dirhams alongside the prison sentence. The appeals court's modification of the sentence reflects a possible reassessment of the severity of the charges against her, allowing for a sentence that is less harsh while still holding her accountable for her actions.
