Marrakech Implements New Bus Station Regulations: No More Off-Site Pickups

Marrakech Enforces New Regulations for Bus Transport

In a significant move to streamline transportation in Marrakech, authorities have enacted a new regulation mandating that all buses must pick up and drop off passengers exclusively at the Al Azzouzia bus station. This measure, officially published in the Bulletin officiel on July 23, 2026, applies to all bus lines entering, departing from, or merely passing through the city. The Ministry of Transport's directive aims to centralize bus operations at the designated station, thereby enhancing the efficiency and organization of public transport in the area.

The regulation extends beyond mere passenger pickup and drop-off, as it also encompasses the loading and unloading of luggage, goods, and packages. Consequently, transport operators will no longer be permitted to stop at various entrances to Marrakech or on key highways to collect passengers. This rule applies even to those buses that use the city solely as a stopover on longer journeys. All tickets and documentation related to luggage and cargo must now be issued from the bus station's ticket counters, ensuring a more structured process for travelers.

This new directive supersedes a 1981 regulation that previously governed the use of the former bus terminal. With Al Azzouzia now established as the mandatory hub for all bus-related activities in Marrakech, travelers can expect a more regulated and efficient transport experience, eliminating the chaotic situations that sometimes arose from off-site pickups. The enforcement of this regulation is part of a broader initiative to improve public transport infrastructure and service quality in Marrakech.
