Marrakech Police Foil Theft Attempt, Arrest Two Suspects

On the night of September 16, 2026, the police in Gueliz, Marrakech, apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in a series of thefts by snatching. The suspects were caught in the act on Mohammed V Street while attempting to target a Moroccan resident living abroad. A swift police intervention near a local restaurant played a crucial role in thwarting the robbery attempt and detaining the alleged criminals, who were reportedly using a black motorcycle to target the mobile phones and handbags of pedestrians. To evade identification, they wore hats to obscure their faces from surveillance cameras.

According to security sources, an examination of the confiscated mobile phones revealed images and videos of items believed to have been stolen during previous incidents. Additionally, the motorcycle and the hats used during the theft attempts were seized as evidence. The two suspects have been placed under police custody as directed by the public prosecutor, pending further investigation to determine the extent of their involvement in other related thefts and to uncover additional details of the case.
