Marrakech Police Arrests Suspect in Extortion Case Following Social Media Exposure

On Tuesday, March 24th, the judicial police in Marrakech apprehended a 39-year-old individual with a criminal history, suspected of involvement in a case of extortion and threats of violence. This action was taken after a video surfaced on social media the previous evening, showing a foreign national being subjected to extortion and violent threats in the old city of Marrakech.

According to security sources, the information vigilance services detected the alarming video, which prompted immediate action. Initial investigations revealed that the police had not received any formal complaints or reports regarding the incident, neither through official channels nor via the dedicated hotline for reporting such cases.

The police treated the published video as a report of a presumed crime, leading to the initiation of a judicial inquiry under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor. This investigation successfully identified the suspect, who was found to have a criminal record that included charges related to unlicensed tour guiding and violence against family members.

Following extensive research and investigations, law enforcement succeeded in arresting the suspect during a security operation in the rural area of "Zmran" located on the outskirts of Marrakech. The detained individual is now undergoing judicial questioning, which is being conducted under the oversight of the relevant public prosecutor, in order to uncover all the circumstances and details surrounding the case and to determine the true motivations behind these criminal acts.
