Marrakech Press Syndicate Raises Alarm Over Intruders and Calls for a Press House
The regional office of the National Syndicate of Moroccan Journalists in the Marrakech-Safi region has urgently called upon the local authorities and internal affairs departments to expedite the issuance of temporary and final receipts for the newly re-elected office. The syndicate expressed its complete understanding of the transitional challenges associated with digitization and the electronic transformation within local administration.
During its inaugural meeting following the recent elections, the syndicate urged responsible authorities and local councils in Marrakech to accelerate the completion of the "Press House" project in the Hay Mohammed neighborhood, which is currently stalled. This demand aligns with the royal attention given to the Press House initiative in Tangier.
In its first official statement following a meeting dedicated to discussing organizational and professional issues, the syndicate expressed significant satisfaction with the successful conduct of the general assembly held on May 23, 2026. It extended gratitude to the assembly members for their trust and commended the crucial role played by the National Syndicate's president, Abdelkabir Khachichane, in managing the electoral process with integrity, transparency, and patience.
The syndicate also praised the tireless organizational efforts of the executive office to renew regional branches and activate national consultative meetings, while responsibly advocating for the rule of law and regulations.
The regional office announced its unconditional solidarity with all journalists who have faced physical and material assaults and harassment while performing their professional duties. It particularly highlighted those who encountered obstructions in the Sidi Youssef Ben Ali district of Marrakech or following the publication of an article concerning a university institution in the region. The syndicate called on security agencies to swiftly intervene to ensure the necessary field protection for the media during event coverage.
Regrettably, the syndicate noted the rise of chaos and the increasing activity of imposters who attempt to infiltrate the journalism profession. It condemned the complicity of certain officials, elected representatives, and public figures who facilitate their activities by providing them with credible news sources and easing their tasks.
In this context, the syndicate emphasized the necessity of firmly enforcing laws to curb intruders and prevent unqualified individuals from gathering news at public councils, conferences, official meetings, cultural events, sports activities, and art festivals.
The syndicate issued a heartfelt appeal to all officials and elected representatives in the region for effective cooperation to cleanse the media sector of intruders and parasites, ensuring the flow of information benefits legitimate and responsible outlets. It also urged all journalists and professionals in the Marrakech-Safi region to adhere strictly to professional ethics, integrity, and honor in news reporting and the noble execution of their responsibilities.
The regional office outlined its upcoming action plan to enhance the trade union landscape in the region, confirming its commitment to continue organizational work through the establishment and renewal of local union branches across various provinces of the Marrakech-Safi region, as well as expanding the membership base.
Additionally, it announced the launch of an ambitious annual program that encompasses training, qualification, and professional, social, cultural, and sports support projects for journalists.
The office resolved to form a coordination and collaboration committee comprising a select group of qualified and competent journalists known for their professional integrity, aiming to support the office's work through their efforts, expertise, and to offer necessary consultations and arbitration when required.
In conclusion, the syndicate reaffirmed its commitment to defending the dignity and rights of journalists within the framework of freedom, responsibility, integrity, and participatory union work.
