Mohamed Ouahbi Officially Retained as Morocco's National Football Team Coach

Mohamed Ouahbi Continues as Morocco's National Team Coach Amidst Mixed Reactions

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has confirmed the continuation of Mohamed Ouahbi as the head coach of the national football team, despite facing scrutiny from certain segments of supporters and media following the team's exit in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup. This decision was made public in a statement released by the FRMF on Thursday, stating that its executive committee had convened and decided to renew its confidence in Ouahbi’s leadership role with the Moroccan squad. Ouahbi has been at the helm since March of this year, succeeding Walid Regragui shortly before the commencement of the World Cup.

Although the FRMF did not disclose the specifics regarding the duration of Ouahbi's contract, the 49-year-old coach indicated in a May interview with beIN Sports that his agreement is set to last until the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal. During the recently concluded World Cup, which took place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, Morocco's journey came to an end when they faced France in the quarter-finals, resulting in a 2-0 defeat. This performance drew criticism from some fans and media outlets in Morocco, while others chose to celebrate the Lions' overall journey in the tournament, highlighting the pride and historic achievements of the national team.
