Marrakech Authorities Respond to Video Controversy Involving Tourist
The Marrakech police swiftly addressed a viral video that surfaced on social media on Sunday, which depicted a restaurant owner denying entry to a foreign tourist. The video was accompanied by comments alleging that the tourist had been scammed after being charged an exorbitant price for a pizza meal.
Initial investigations revealed that the National Security services in Marrakech had not received any complaints or notifications regarding the incident as it was portrayed online. Following this, authorities initiated inquiries that successfully identified the restaurant owner and allowed them to provide their account of the events surrounding the situation.
Further investigations indicated that the incident actually occurred over a week ago, prior to the Eid al-Adha holiday. It was determined that the restaurant owner had refused the tourist entry due to her apparent inebriation and disruptive behavior, and there was no connection between this refusal and any claims about an overpriced meal.
Moreover, field investigations confirmed that the restaurant in question does not serve pizza at all, contradicting the claims made in the comments accompanying the circulated video. This clarification underscores the importance of verifying information before sharing it on social media platforms, as misinformation can lead to unnecessary misunderstandings and reputational damage.
