Major Renovations Planned for Marrakech Stadium
The National Agency for Public Equipment (ANEP) has officially launched an international tender for the second phase of renovations at the Marrakech Stadium, with an estimated budget of 767.2 million MAD. This phase focuses primarily on the design and installation of a new roof and facade, following the completion of the first phase, which involved substantial construction work, waterproofing, and interior finishes. This initial phase was awarded to the TGCC company at a cost of 902.86 million MAD, bringing the total investment in the stadium to nearly 1.67 billion MAD across both phases.
Transforming the Stadium for the Future
The overarching project aims to comprehensively restructure the sports venue to enhance the spectator experience and significantly increase the stadium's capacity in compliance with FIFA standards. Notably, plans include the removal of the existing athletics track and lowering the pitch level to bring fans closer to the action on the field. The upgrade will also feature a new PTFE membrane roof supported by four columns positioned at the stadium's corners, spanning approximately 165 meters. This innovative roofing solution will cover all seating areas and provide support for modern lighting and sound equipment.
In addition to the roof installation, the north and south stands will be elevated and reinforced to align with the new seating layout, while the waterproofing of the east and west stands will be completely redone. The stadium's exterior will also be enhanced with metallic sunshades and rain shields, contributing to its modern aesthetic and functionality. The entire renovation process is expected to take 12 months to complete, marking a significant step towards preparing the venue for future events, including the upcoming World Cup.
