Marrakech's New Festivity Space: A Cultural Hub in the Making
The city of Marrakech is set to enhance its public space offerings with the development of a dedicated area for festivities along Mohammed VI Avenue. This ambitious project spans approximately 87,885 square meters and aims to create a large venue capable of hosting a variety of activities, including cultural, artistic, and recreational events. In doing so, it seeks to invigorate social interactions and improve the urban landscape of the neighborhood. Positioned strategically between Moulay El Hassan Sports Park and N’zaha Moulay El Hassan, the proposed space will include several facilities designed to accommodate both events and the daily public, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere year-round.
Key features of the project include the design and surfacing of the plaza, alongside the construction of a stage tailored for performances and events. Furthermore, the site will be furnished with both public and decorative lighting, benches, and pedestrian pathways to enhance accessibility. Significant attention will be devoted to green spaces, which will involve planting trees and implementing an irrigation system to maintain lush vegetation. The initiative also encompasses essential infrastructure such as water, electricity, and sanitation networks, complemented by fencing, access points, and informational signage.
Moreover, the space will be equipped with sound and lighting systems suitable for various events, while its surrounding areas will undergo specific enhancements, particularly concerning parking facilities. The execution of the project will rely on a comprehensive study and project management mission, which includes drafting a preliminary project outline (APS) and a detailed project plan (APD), preparing consultation documents for contractors, and overseeing the coordination, management, and quality control of the construction work. The studies will encompass architectural, landscaping, topographical, and geotechnical aspects, as well as considerations related to structures, sanitation networks, irrigation, electricity, public lighting, and other technical equipment. Additionally, the project will feature visual projections and 3D representations to evaluate its integration into the existing environment.
The consulting firm will be tasked with proposing technical and financial solutions to finalize the selected variant as per the project owner's requirements. The mission also includes comprehensive support during the implementation phase, where the consulting firm will monitor the construction progress, organize site meetings, ensure compliance with contractual specifications, and verify quantities and accounts submitted by contractors. This process will involve meticulous tracking of the schedule, topographical checks, laboratory test interpretations, validation of materials and equipment, and the preparation of monthly progress reports. The mission will conclude with the provisional acceptance of the works, the preparation of a completion report accompanied by photographic documentation, and the verification of as-built plans. By expanding its recreational offerings, Marrakech aims to create a new multifunctional public space that serves both major events and enhances the attractiveness and urban quality of Mohammed VI Avenue.
