Massive Cyberattack Disrupts European Airports, Cancels Royal Air Maroc Flights

Cyberattack Causes Major Flight Disruptions Across Europe

In a significant incident that has shaken the aviation sector, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has announced a series of emergency measures following a large-scale cyberattack that targeted passenger check-in and boarding systems at several European airports. This attack has resulted in widespread disruptions to flight operations, leading to delays and cancellations of numerous flights. According to a statement released by RAM, all flights departing from Brussels Airport were canceled due to a technical failure caused by the cyber intrusion, which rendered airport systems inoperative.

In response to the chaos, Royal Air Maroc has provided its customers with two options for free rebooking. Passengers can either reschedule their flight in the same class within seven days of the canceled flight from or to Brussels, or they can opt to rebook within three days for flights to or from Amsterdam, Orly Airport in Paris, or Charles de Gaulle Airport. The airline has urged travelers to contact its call centers or original sales points to choose the arrangement that best suits their needs. Additionally, RAM has requested that passengers inform other travelers associated with the same booking references about these developments, expressing sincere apologies for the disruptions caused by the cyberattack at European airports.

Advice for Travelers Amid Ongoing Chaos

Furthermore, the airline has advised passengers traveling through London Heathrow Airport to complete their check-in procedures online before heading to the airport and to carry their electronic or printed boarding passes to avoid congestion and delays. The situation has been exacerbated by a national strike in France, which may complicate travel arrangements further. RAM has recommended that passengers heading to Paris's Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports arrive at least four hours before their scheduled departure times, as disruptions may also affect other French airports.

These warnings from RAM come as European airport authorities, including those in Brussels, Berlin, and Heathrow, confirmed that a cyberattack targeted the service provider responsible for passenger check-in and boarding systems since Friday evening. This incident has led to operational disruptions at several major airports, resulting in the postponement or cancellation of numerous flights. The airline has encouraged its customers to continuously monitor the status of their flights through the "Manage My Booking" section on its website or via its mobile application, and to update their contact information to receive any new notifications.
