Rabat Hosts Rally Supporting Palestinian Prisoners
In a significant show of solidarity, a large march took place in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, on the occasion of Palestinian Prisoners' Day. This event was organized by the National Action Group for Palestine and the Moroccan Front for Support of Palestine, starting from the historic Bab el-Had square and making its way toward the Parliament. Hundreds of participants from various cities across the country took part, waving Palestinian flags and displaying images of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Throughout the procession, demonstrators chanted slogans promoting Palestinian resistance, calling for the release of Palestinian prisoners, and urging the protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Notably, the protesters demanded the withdrawal of a controversial bill from the Israeli Knesset that would pave the way for the implementation of the death penalty against Palestinian prisoners. This rally also saw thousands of Moroccans condemning the atrocities committed by Israel and calling on their government to cease the normalization process with the Israeli state. The pro-Palestinian stance of Moroccan footballer Hakim Ziyech was celebrated among the crowd, with slogans echoing his support for the Palestinian cause.
Mohammed El Fassi, one of the participants, expressed to an AA correspondent that the Moroccan people continue to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, stating, "Today, students and engineers, various components of society have united for Gaza, for Palestinian prisoners, and for Al-Aqsa Mosque." Additionally, Semah Chatibi, an 18-year-old participant, noted that their involvement was part of a student initiative aimed at raising awareness about the Palestinian issue. Her group actively engages on social media to advocate for the Palestinian cause and to educate younger generations about it.
It is important to mention that the Palestinian National Council, associated with the Palestine Liberation Organization, declared April 17 as "Palestinian Prisoners' Day" in 1974. Each year, Palestinians observe this date through various activities, demonstrations, and symposiums to bring attention to the plight of detainees on the international stage. According to Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations, over 9,600 Palestinians, including women and children, are currently imprisoned in Israeli jails, where they face practices such as torture, food deprivation, and medical negligence, leading to the deaths of dozens.
