Medi1TV Expands Operations into Mali, Enhancing Audiovisual Landscape

Medi1TV Gains Broadcasting License in Mali

Morocco's Medi1TV has successfully obtained authorization to commence television operations in Mali, following the formal signing of an agreement with the High Authority for Communication (HAC) of the country. This significant agreement, which took place in Bamako on June 5, empowers the broadcaster to establish a robust presence in Mali, allowing them to manage productions and broadcast their programming directly to local audiences. The expansion not only illustrates the strengthening ties between Mali and Morocco but also enhances the diversity of the audiovisual sector within Mali itself.

The signing ceremony featured key figures, including HAC President Gaoussou Coulibaly and Hicham Abderahim, the Director of Innovation and Artistic Production at Medi1TV. The partnership outlined within the agreement encompasses various elements such as knowledge sharing, professional collaboration, and the commitment to deliver balanced and credible coverage of issues pertinent to Africa.

Commitment to Compliance and Local Talent Development

Medi1TV's expansion into Mali is backed by a substantial investment of CFA65 million, which covers the costs associated with licensing and technical assessments necessary for their operations. With this agreement, Medi1TV receives an official broadcasting license, permitting them to operate in full compliance with Mali's national laws and broadcasting regulations. The broadcaster is obliged to adhere to the country's ethical and professional journalism standards, ensuring that their content meets local expectations and regulatory frameworks.

In addition to its broadcasting endeavors, the agreement aims to bolster audiovisual cooperation through various initiatives such as training programs, knowledge exchanges, and digital innovation projects. These efforts are designed to nurture local talent, elevate professional standards within the industry, and cultivate enduring partnerships across the media landscape in Mali.

Medi1TV, which was launched in 2006 as a bilingual news channel serving the Maghreb region, has transformed into a multilingual, multi-platform media group with a significant footprint throughout Africa and beyond. The headquarters of Medi1TV is situated in Tangier, Morocco, where it operates across multiple North African countries including Algeria and Tunisia. In West Africa, the broadcaster has already established a presence in countries such as Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire, further extending its reach in Central Africa through satellite television services available in nations like Cameroon and Gabon.

Furthermore, Medi1TV caters to diaspora audiences in Europe through various operators, including SFR, Orange, Free, Bouygues, RED, and Sosh, as well as in North America via Dish and Sling. As the organization embarks on its Malian operations, it will implement technical agreements, form local or mixed teams, and tailor its programming to meet the specific needs and expectations of Malian viewers.
